Review of Symptoms

A structured physical therapy program may help improve core strength, posture, flexibility, lifting mechanics, and movement tolerance. Therapy cannot reverse every endplate change, but it may reduce mechanical stress and help patients return to activity safely.

Activity Modification

Temporarily adjusting movements that repeatedly trigger pain may support recovery. This does not usually mean complete bed rest. A gradual, professionally guided return to movement is often more appropriate than prolonged inactivity.

Medications

Depending on the patient’s medical history, a physician may recommend anti-inflammatory medication, acetaminophen, muscle relaxants, or other pain-relieving options. Medication may reduce symptoms but does not directly repair damaged endplates.

What Happens During the Procedure?

BVN ablation is generally performed as a minimally invasive outpatient procedure, allowing most patients to return home the same day. The physician uses imaging guidance to accurately reach the affected vertebra and treat the basivertebral nerve. The main steps may include:

  1. The patient receives anesthesia or sedation based on medical need.

  2. The physician uses fluoroscopic imaging to identify the target vertebra.
